If
we took you back through the mists of time, to the year 1956,
to a misty morning in the hills of Wynad in Kerala, you would
see Poonen(Sr), our founder, single-handedly clearing the thick
undergrowth with a machete. His hard work and commitment to
sound values, provided the rich roots for the growth of the
enterprise.
Growth was at first slow and steady, then in the 70s large areas
were aggressively brought under cultivation. This paid off,
when in 1985 WynGroup was in a position to set about creating
the infrastructure for the future. Infrastructure, the very
lifeblood of a professionally managed plantation: sprinkler
irrigation layouts, drying yards, coffee pulping station, godowns
all came up to provide the framework for quicker growth.
In 1992, the plantation offered the estate brand - Wyn Coffee.
We began deemed exports in '93. In '95 for the first time we
made a direct export and we continue this line of business till
date.
The picturesque Talavadi Plateau, near Mysore in Karnataka,
is ringed by hill ranges and rain forests. The famous BR Hills,
the Nilgiri Blue Mountain Range and the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary,
the home of the Indian bison.
It was here, in '96, that we began fruit and vegetable cultivation.
The region also saw us introducing for the first time high-density
mango orchards just a year later, using drip irrigation and
fertigation systems.
By '97 English vegetables were being grown in neat rows in the
vegetable patches. Potatoes, carrots, cabbages and beans. The
same year saw us taking up farm forestry. This was followed
by high-density citrus orchards in 1998.
